Originally used in spiritual rituals dating back to the Mazatec Indians, Salvia divinorum is completely legal to use and possess in the United States, Salvia and the extracts are totally legal in the United States, and it is not illegal to buy salvia extract in head shops or online, so possession or consumption of it should not be of concern even if testing is possible. And the same is true for most countries in the modern world. The only countries that have managed to actually pass laws to restricting the legality of Salvia Divinorum possession, are Denmark, Finland and Australia. As previosly noted, parts of United States governement and local governments have unsuccessfully tried to pass anti divinorum laws and continue to monitor divinorum use today.

Salvia Divinorum plants is listed on the DEA controlled substance watch list. This has become a serious concern for those who sell the Salvia Divinorum plant and Salvinorin extracts over the internet. The merchants are concerned that if the plant becomes popular although we would get more business the government might label it a threat and ban it's use in the United States.

People should practice and encourage responsible use. Salvia should not be provided to minors or unstable individuals.
